Stripes Forever

Like all carvers, I love the look of bare wood, and often it just too beautiful to be covered by paint. That was the case here. I had a left-over chunk of the lovely "tiger" or "striped" maple, so I carved into a pleasing shape, with additional planes and curves to contrast with and/or complement the various figures already present. Then I mounted it on another block of contrasting colour with its own interesting grain. The resulting sculpture won a 1st-in-Class ribbon at a carving competition in Ontario.
